Nacre receives 2010 NTNU SINTEF Technology Award

The NTNU and SINTEF Technology Award is presented to an enterprise (a company or other organization), project or individual in recognition of a pioneering, first-time application of innovative and advanced technology. The technology must originate from a technology group at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)/SINTEF and its application is required to hold significant value-creating potential for business & industry and/or society in general.

The NTNU and SINTEF Technology Award 2010At the Technoport Awards 2010, September 23rd, Nacre received the NTNU and SINTEF Technology Award for QUIETPRO+ Intelligent Hearing System. Nacre’s VP Operations, Odd Rønning, represented Nacre at the award.

QUIETPRO+ has extensively been used by military and Special Forces around the world, including US Marine Corps. Now, the technology is being introduced to the civilian industrial markets as an advanced hearing protection and communication solution for use on offshore oil platforms. Noise-induced hearing loss amongst offshore workers is a common occupational disease. Statoil is currently using the equipment on their helicopter decks. Nacre won the award in strong competition with Niklas Magnusson (SINTEF Energy) and Magne Runde (SINTEF Energy and NTNTU), and Professor Marit Otterlei with the department of cancer research and molecular medicine, NTNU’s Medical Faculty.
